The authors propose a non-local elasticity theory for magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) nano-materials intended for better understanding of the behavior of nano-electro-mechanical systems. This is an extension of existing models to investigate nanostructures. The model involves a new constitutive theory developed on the basis of a theoretical thermodynamical framework. The equation of motion and boundary conditions are derived from a variational principle. As an illustration of the theory, general frequency solutions of complete boundary value problems for a one-dimensional beam problem are derived under different selections of higher-order boundary conditions and three typical constraints such as clamped, simply supported and cantilever ends. It is found that the equation of motion for a beam within the present model, expressed in terms of displacements, is two orders higher than that of the classical Euler-Bernoulli model. Special attention is devoted to obtaining a consistent set of boundary conditions for nonlocal strain gradient beams using the so-called weighted residual approach. The present model includes an added term induced by the rotary mass inertia. This term can contribute to higher mode vibration frequencies. Comparison with boundary conditions derived by several authors is presented. Numerical results are presented and plotted for concrete materials. Comparison of the results is carried out with the corresponding ones existing in the literature.
