The author begins by introducing some of the most popular implicit time integration schemes. Then a detailed description of one of the most effective matrix-based preconditioning techniques for solving the arising systems, the block-ILU method with minimum discarded fill element ordering, is undertaken. A short discussion on parallelization issues is presented. Finally, the problem of how one could exploit the benefits of both explicit and implicit time integrators using implicit-explicit Runge-Kutta methods is considered in detail. For the entire collection see [Zbl 1468.76003].
