The present paper aims essentially to develop a numerical approach to approximate the solutions study solutions of a dispersionless Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation in 2-dimensional case, where the dependence on the second variable is assumed to be periodic. The authors applied a compactification method based on Penrose's approach to Minkowski space to map the real x-axis to the compact interval $[-1,1]$, and keeping periodicity for the second variable. This allows the authors to decompose the solution into a Fourier series on based on Chebyshev differentiation matrices, and a discrete Fourier transform on the second variable. An unconditionally stable Crank-Nicolson scheme is then applied. The numerical approach developed permitted to investigate the critical behavior, the formation of a shock in the solutions, and to takle the possibility of checking the well-kown Dubrovin's universality conjecture on the break-up of solutions to the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation. The paper is achieved with the treatment of some examples to show effectively the behavior of the solution according to periodicity or not in the x-coordinate on the breakup. It is an interesting work that joins a series of efforts in the study of the behavior of the solutions of different types of PDEs which are issued from real physical applications, and also to the Dubrovin's universality conjecture on the break-up of solutions to many PDEs.
