Let \(\mathcal {M}\) be the subset of monic polynomials in \(\mathbb{F}_q[t]\). Let \(R\in \mathcal {M}\) and \(\chi\) be a Dirichlet character on \(\mathbb{F}_q[t]\) of modulus \(R\). The associated Dirichlet \(L\)-function is defined for all \(\mathrm{Re}(s) > 1\) by \[L(s,\chi)= \sum_{A\in \mathcal {M}}\frac{\chi(A)}{|A|^s}.\] In the paper under review, the authors derive asymptotic formulas for the first and second moments of any arbitrary \(k\)-derivatives of \(L(s,\chi)\) as follows: \[ \frac{1}{\phi(Q)}\sum_{\stackrel{\chi\mod Q}{\chi \neq \chi_0}} L^{(k)} \left( 1/2,\chi \right)= \frac{-(-\log q)^k}{q^{1/2}-1}\frac{(deg\; Q)^k}{|Q|^{1/2}}+O_k\left((\log q)^k \frac{(deg\; Q)^{k-1}}{|Q|^{1/2}}\right)\] and \[\frac{1}{\phi(Q)}\sum_{\stackrel{\chi\mod Q}{\chi \neq \chi_0}} \left|L^{(k)} \left( 1/2,\chi \right)\right|^2=\frac{(\log q)^{2k}}{2k+1}(deg\; Q)^{2k+1}+O\left((\log q)^{2k}(deg\; Q)^{2k}\right).\] Finally, the authors extend the function field \(q\)-analogue of the work of Conrey, who obtained the fourth moment of derivatives of the Riemann zeta-function.
