Let \(\mathbb{F}_q\) be the finite field with \(q\) elements, where \(q\) is a prime power. An \([n,k]_q\) code \(C\) over is said to be LCD code if \(C \cap C^{\perp} = \{ 0 \}\), where \(C^\perp\) denotes the dual code of \(C\). The concept of LCD codes was introduced by Massey and has important relevance in coding for data storage. On the other side, an \([n,k]_q\) code \(C\) is said to be a self-dual code if \(C = C^\perp\). Even though self dual codes and LCD codes are at the antipodes in terms of properties, the techniques for constructing these codes have often common patterns. In this paper, the authors focus on the construction of LCD codes using already known techniques for self-dual codes for \(q=2,3\) in the Hamming metric and \(q=4\) in the Hermitian metric.
