Compact operators on the Hahn space (Q2232815)

The authors study generalized Hahn sequence spaces \(h_d\) for unbounded, monotone increasing sequences \(d\) of positive real numbers. The classes of bounded linear operators \(B(X,Y)\) are characterized, where one of the spaces \(X\) and \(Y\) is \(h_d\), and the other is one the spaces \(\ell_{\infty}\), \(c\), \(c_0\), \(\ell_1\) or \(h_d\). The norms of the operators in the corresponding classes are determined. Identities or estimates for the operators in most of the mentioned classes are established, and the results are used to derive identities for the Hausdorff measure of noncompactness for these operators and so to characterize the corresponding classes of compact operators. An example of a Fredholm operator given by a tridiagonal infinite matrix is presented.
