Of concern in this paper is the dynamics of a \(n\)-species Gilpin-Ayala competition model which is subject to stochastic perturbations. A sufficient condition for the existence and uniqueness of an ergodic stationary distribution is obtained via the construction of suitable \(\epsilon\)-Lyapunov functions, coupled with a limiting argument. This generalizes related results from [\textit{D. Jiang} et al., J. Math. Anal. Appl. 390, No. 2, 582--595 (2012; Zbl 1258.34099 and [\textit{L. Liu} and \textit{Q. Zhu}, Math. Probl. Eng. 2014, Article ID 637862, 10 p. (2014; Zbl 1407.92144)], which are obtained for \(n=2\). Sufficient condition for long-term population coexistence and, conversely, for population extinction are obtained via the use of exponential martingale inequalities, again generalizing results from [\textit{D. Jiang} et al., J. Math. Anal. Appl. 390, No. 2, 582--595 (2012; Zbl 1258.34099 and [\textit{L. Liu} and \textit{Q. Zhu}, Math. Probl. Eng. 2014, Article ID 637862, 10 p. (2014; Zbl 1407.92144)]. Finally, the above-mentioned analytical results are illustrated by means of numerical simulations, for both the initial model and its unperturbed, deterministic counterpart.
