Let \(G\) be a connected reductive algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of characteristic \(p > 0\) and let \(\mathfrak{g}\) denote the restricted Lie algebra of \(G\). Assume that \(p\) is a good prime for the root system of \(G\), the derived subgroup of \(G\) is simply connected and \(\mathfrak{g}\) admits a non-degenerate \((\mathrm{Ad}\, G)\)-invariant symmetric bilinear form. For a linear form \(\chi\) on \(\mathfrak{g}\), denote by \(U_\chi(\mathfrak{g})\) the \(\chi\)-reduced enveloping algebra of \(\mathfrak{g}\). By the Kac-Weisfeiler conjecture, first proved by \textit{A. Premet} [Invent. Math. 121, No. 1, 79--117 (1995; Zbl 0828.17008)], the dimension of every irreducible \(U_\chi(\mathfrak{g})\)-module is divisible by \(p^{(\dim \mathcal{O}(\chi))/2}\), where \(\mathcal{O}(\chi)\) is the coadjoint \(G\)-orbit of \(\chi\). In the main theorem of the notable paper under review, the authors show that for every linear form \(\chi\) on \(\mathfrak{g}\) there exists an irreducible \(U_\chi(\mathfrak{g})\)-module whose dimension equals \(p^{(\dim \mathcal{O}(\chi))/2}\), thereby providing a positive answer to the problem known in the literature as the Humphreys' conjecture.
