Two topologies on a set \(X\) are said to be transversal if their join is the discrete topology [\textit{M. G. Tkačenko} et al., Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 128, No. 1, 287--297 (2000; Zbl 0932.54035)]. This notion was studied in the context of group topologies in [\textit{D. Dikranjan} et al., Topology Appl. 153, No. 5--6, 786--817 (2005; Zbl 1114.22001); Topology Appl. 153, No. 17, 3338--3354 (2006; Zbl 1104.22001)]. The authors investigate some problems from the latter two papers. The show that if a locally pseudocompact and connected group~\(G\) admits a transversal topology then its center \(Z(G)\) is discrete or admits a transversal topology also [loc. cit., problem~6.3]. They give partial answers to two other problems: (1)~whether \(G/K\)~admits a transversal topology when \(G\)~does and \(K\)~is a compact normal subgroup, and (2)~whether there is a characterization of the locally compact groups that admit transversal group topologies.
