The paper under review deals with the family of \(Q\)-means defined by \[Q_{\alpha}=A(x,y)\left[ A^{2}(x,y)/\left( \left( 1-\alpha\right) A^{2}(x,y)+\alpha G^{2}(x,y)\right) \right] ,\] where \(x,y>0\), \(\alpha \in\lbrack-4,1/2]\), \(A(x,y)=(x+y)/2\) and \(G(x,y)=\sqrt{xy}.\) The range of the parameters \(\alpha\) is motivated by the fact that the function \(q_{\alpha }(z)=z-\alpha z^{3}\) is a Seiffert function if and only if \(-4\leq\alpha \leq1/2.\) One obtains optimal bounds of the form \(Q_{\alpha}<M<Q_{\beta}\), where \(M\) belongs to a broad class of classical homogeneous, symmetric means of two variables (such as the harmonic mean, the logarithmic mean, the Heronian mean, the arcsine Seiffert mean etc.)
