The authors present two second-order well-balanced numerical schemes for the 1D blood flow equations, where the source term is due to varying mechanical and geometrical properties. The first scheme is based on an approximate Riemann solver and the numerical source is defined in such a way that it is consistent in the integral sense with the source term, while the second method exploits the hydrostatic reconstruction approach. Some numerical tests are presented to show the convergence order and the good behaviour of the schemes.
