The manuscript addresses the problem of extremum seeking for wave equations evolving in the one-dimensional spatial interval~\((0,1)\subset\mathbb R\). \par The input control acts on the right spatial boundary point~\(x=1\); see Eqs.~(4)--(7). The authors also consider the case where such input is subject to the solution of a heat equation; see Eqs.~(89)--(95). Hence, in this case the dynamics involve a coupled PDE system. The input can be subject to a constant time delay, and depends on the output of suitable measurements depending on the state at the left spatial boundary point~\(x=0\); see Eq.~(1) and recall Eqs.~(4)--(7) and Eqs.~(89)--(95). \par The goal is to find the unknown static extremal output~\(y^*\) and maintain the measured output \(y(t)\) close to~\(y^*\). \par The results are derived under a suitable local assumption on the measured output (around the sought extremal output~\(y^*\)); see Assumption~1. \par Results of simulations are presented showing the performance of the proposed control design.
