When \(M\) is a group or a monoid and \(f: M\to M\) is an endomorphism, the notion of algebraic entropy of \(f\) is a measure of how chaotic the action of \(f\) is. The present paper extends this notion to the realm of spaces \(X\) endowed with the action of a monoid \(M\), \(\alpha: M\to X^X\). An endomorphism of such an object is defined as a pair \((f,\bar{f})\), where \(f: X\to X\) is a map, \(\bar{f}: M\to M\) is a monoid endomorphism, and \(f\circ \alpha(a)=\alpha(\bar{f}(a))\circ f\) for all \(a\in M\). The author introduces the category \textbf{FlowMon-Set}, of endomorphisms of sets endowed with a monoid action. He then defines the algebraic entropy of an object in \textbf{FlowMon-Set} and proves several properties that hold for the usual algebraic entropy: the invariance under conjugation, the weak logarithmic law, and the weak addition theorem, among others. He shows that this notion of entropy is in fact an extension of the classical algebraic entropy for monoids. Finally, he compares the new notion to that of coarse entropy proving that if \((X,\mathcal{E})\) is a coarse space with bounded geometry and \(f:(X,\mathcal{E})\to (X,\mathcal{E})\) is a bornologous bijective self-map, then the coarse entropy of \(f\) is the algebraic entropy of an endomorphism of \(X\) seen as a \(G\)-space, for some appropriate group \(G\). The paper is self-contained and written in a clear, reader-friendly manner.
