Recall that \emph{a factor} is a von Neumann algebra with trivial center, i.e. a center consisting only of scalar operators. Let \(\mathcal{A}\) and \(\mathcal{B}\) be two factors. In the paper authors study maps \(\Phi : \mathcal{A}\rightarrow \mathcal{B}\) that preserve the product induced by the Lie product (\(\left[ A,B\right] =AB-BA,\) \(A,B\in \mathcal{A}\)) and the Jordan \(\ast\)-product (\(A\bullet B=AB-BA^{\ast }\), \(A,B\in \mathcal{A}\)). We say that a map \(\Phi : \mathcal{A\rightarrow B}\) preserves the mixed product if for all \(A,B,C\in \mathcal{A}\), \[ \Phi \left( \left[ A\bullet B,C\right] \right) =\left[ \Phi (A)\bullet \Phi (B),\Phi (C)\right] . \] With the first result authors show that every bijective map \(\Phi : \mathcal{A}\rightarrow \mathcal{B}\) that preserves the mixed product is additive. They use this result to prove the main result which follows. Let \(\mathcal{A}\) and \(\mathcal{B}\) be two factors with \(\dim \mathcal{A}>4\). Then a bijective map \(\Phi : \mathcal{A}\rightarrow \mathcal{B}\) preserves the mixed product if and only if \(\Phi\) is a linear \(\ast\)-isomorphism, or a conjugate linear \(\ast\)-isomorphism, or the negative of a linear \(\ast\)-isomorphism, or the negative of a conjugate linear \(\ast\)-isomorphism. Authors end the paper with a corollary to the main result that describes the form of all bijective maps \(\Phi : \mathcal{A}\rightarrow \mathcal{B}\) which preserve the mixed product, where \(\mathcal{A}\) and \(\mathcal{B}\) are type I factors acting on a complex Hilbert space \(\mathcal{H}\) with \(\dim \mathcal{H}>2\).
