The authors construct in an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space \(H\) a series with terms tending to zero such that, for some rearrangements \(p: \mathbb N \to \mathbb N\), the set \(S_p\) of limit points of partial sums of the \(p\)-rearranged series has a strange structure, impossible in the finite-dimensional case. More precisely, there is a vector \(e \in H \setminus \{0\}\) such that on the one hand, for every rearrangement \(p\) the corresponding set \(S_p\) is either empty or is of the form \(A \cdot e\), where \(A \subset \mathbb R\) is closed, and on the other hand, for every \(A \subset \mathbb R\) which is the closure of a subset of \(\mathbb Q\), there is a rearrangement \(p\) such that \(S_p = A \cdot e\). For example, \(S_p\) can be a discrete set, or the union of disjoint intervals in \(\mathbb R \cdot e\).
