This paper proposes a generalization of group symmetries. There are strong reasons to believe that a suitable generalization of the Poincaré group would be very useful in physics. This work, based on a paper of Pysiak on groupoids, is a step in that direction. More precisely, the authors first define the semidirect product \(G_1*G_2\) of two subgroupoids \(G_1\) and \(G_2\) of the same groupoid. They also define the crossed product of a bundle of algebras with the groupoid \(G_1\), and prove that it is isomorphic to the convolutive algebra of the groupoid \(G_1*G_2\). This allows them to construct the Poincaré group as a semidirect product of the subgroupoid of the generalized Lorentz transformations and the subgroupoid of generalized translations.
