The spectral triple is a non-commutative analog of the Dirac operator on a spin manifold \(X\); such an operator captures a good deal of geometry of \(X\). Thus the spectral triples are responsible for geometry of an abstract non-commutative algebra \(A\) different from the algebra \(C(X)\). A major drawback of the paradigm is the lack of bounds for the linear operators involved. To fix the problem, one needs to elaborate a \(K\)-homology representing the unbounded linear operators. The paper under review extends the unbounded operators to Kasparov's \(KK\)-theory. The main result says that the bounded transform \(D\mapsto D(1+D^2)^{-{1\over 2}}\) of the unbounded operator \(D\) defines a functor \({\mathfrak {Cor}}_k\to KK_{i-j}(A,B)\) from the unitary equivalence classes of \(k\)-smooth correspondences of spectral triples to the Kasparov group \(KK_{i-j}(A,B)\).
