Let \(E\) be a Banach space partially ordered by a cone \(P\) such that \(E\) has also a lattice structure, i.e., for all \(x, y\in E\), \(\sup \{x,y\}\) and \(\inf \{x,y\}\) exist. It is well known that, under some boundary conditions satisfied by some completely continuous mapping \(A\), it can be shown whether the Leray-Schauder topological degree with respect to some bounded open subset \(\Omega \subset E\), \(\deg \,(I-A,\Omega ,\theta)\), equals \(1\) or \(0\), where \(\theta \) is the zero element of \(E\). The main theorem of this paper is to give a sufficient condition for the degree to be \(0\) when \(A=BF\) with \(F\) quasi-additive and \(B\) satisfying the Krein-Rutman conditions together with cone conditions instead of a boundary condition. The theory is then applied to solve a singular Sturm-Liouville problem on \([0,1]\) with a nonlinearity satisfying some super-linearity assumptions. An example of applications to a boundary value problem for a second-order differential equation is also included.
