The paper gives an alternative proof of a \(\Gamma \)-convergence result initially established in [\textit{J.-F. Babadjian, F. Prinari} and \textit{E. Zappale}, ``Dimensional reduction for supremal functionals'', Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. 32, No. 5, 1503--1535 (2012; Zbl 1257.49014)] by using some techniques regarding dimensional reduction for gradient-constrained functionals. This method is based on some ideas developed by R. De Arcangelis. From the point of view of applications the theoretical results are useful in modelling phenomena which occurs from the study of dielectric breakdown [\textit{A. Garroni, V. Nesi,} and \textit{M. Ponsiglione}, ``Dielectric breakdown: optimal bounds'', Proc. R. Soc. Lond., Ser. A, Math. Phys. Eng. Sci. 457, No. 2014, 2317--2335 (2001; Zbl 0993.78015)] or polycrystals plasticity [\textit{M. Bocea} and \textit{V. Nesi}, ``\(\Gamma \)-convergence of power-law functionals, variational principles in \(L^\infty \), and applications'', SIAM J. Math. Anal. 39, No. 5, 1550--1576 (2008; Zbl 1166.35300)].
