The textbook under review is aimed at providing an introduction into basic mathematical principles. It addresses to undergraduate students of mathematics, physics, engineering science or informatics. There are 15 chapters and one appendix on a total of 351 pages which are organized into three principal parts dealing with fundamentals of numbers (Chapters 1--6), convergence (Chapters 7--8) and functions (Chapters 9--15). Chapter 1 introduces basic principles of mathematical reasoning using the example of root of 2. The real numbers as one of the principal elements of analysis are discussed in Chapter 2. Chapter 3 provides aspects of logic, sets and maps. After an introduction to basic principles of combinatorics in Chapter 4, Chapter 5 deals with the completeness of real numbers. Chapter 6 is devoted to complex numbers. The second part of the book starts in Chapter 7 with the main concepts of convergence. Chapter 8 focuses on infinite series. After a short introduction to power series in Chapter 9, the exponential function, the logarithm function and general power are presented in Chapter 10. The concept of continuity of functions is described in Chapter 11. Chapter 12 deals with differential calculus. Complex functions are discussed in Chapter 13. In Chapter 14 trigonometric functions are introduced. The last Chapter 15 deals with integral calculus. The volume ends with an appendix providing proposals for solutions to the exercises. In summary, the book under review is strongly recommended as an introduction to basic mathematical principles with a huge set of supportive exercises in each chapter.
