Let \(G\) be a finite group and \(\mathrm{rat}(G)\) be the largest ratio of degrees of two non-linear irreducible characters of \(G\). This ratio is called the character degree ratio of \(G\). This quantity was first introduced by \textit{I. M. Isaacs} [J. Algebra 322, No. 6, 2220-2234 (2009; Zbl 1186.20008)] and then various authors tried to obtain properties of finite groups using \(\mathrm{rat}(G)\). The main result of the paper under review is the following: Let \(G\) be a finite group and \(S\) be a non-abelian composition factor of \(G\) except \(\mathrm{PSL}_2(q)\). Then the order of \(S\) and the number of times that \(S\) occurs as a composition factor of \(G\) are both bounded in terms of \(\mathrm{rat}(G)\).
