Let \(G\) be a finite group and \(p\) be an odd prime. The authors prove the following results. Theorem A. Suppose that the degrees of all nonlinear irreducible \(p\)-Brauer characters of \(G\) are divisible by \(p\). If \(p\geq 5\), then \(G\) is solvable; and if \(p=3\) and the \(p\)-parts of the degrees of nonlinear irreducible \(p\)-Brauer characters of \(G\) take at most two different values, then \(G\) is solvable. The remaining results of the paper fully answer a 1991 question of Huppert: If \(G\) has exactly two distinct irreducible \(p\)-Brauer character degrees, then is \(G\) solvable? The answer is yes when \(p\) is odd, and no for \(p=2\); and the authors determine the structure of the nonsolvable groups that occur when \(p=2\). The proofs depend on CFSG.
