In [Fixed Point Theory 11, No. 1, 125--128 (2010; Zbl 1228.47050)], \textit{B. Ricceri} proved that, if \(X\) is an infinite-dimensional reflexive Banach space with the Kadec-Klee property, then, for every compact function \(f:S_X\to X^*\) with \(\inf_{x\in S_X} f(x)>0\), there exists \(\hat{x}\) in the unit sphere \(S_X\) of \(X\) such that \(\langle f(\hat{x}), \hat{x}\rangle = \| f(\hat{x})\|\). In the article under review, the author notes that the converse is true, providing a characterization of the infinite-dimensional reflexive spaces with the Kadec-Klee property. In particular, the author proves that if \(X\) is a reflexive Banach space without the Kadec-Klee property, then there exists a compact function \(f\) mapping the unit ball \(B_X\) of \(X\) into \(X^*\) such that \(\|f(x)\| \geq 1\) and \(\langle f(x), x\rangle < \|f(x)\|\) for all \(x\) in \(B_X\).
