The paper addresses a system of two coupled reaction-diffusion equations in one dimension, with a finite temporal delay, which models the spread of viral infection, the temporal decay taking the latent time of the infection development in affected persons. The purpose of the analysis is to establish the existence of solutions in the whole space. First, a series of comparison theorems is produced for the investigation of the global stability of equilibrium solutions of the system. Next, it is shown that the spreading speed produced by the solutions coincides with the minimal wave speed. Applying a fluctuation method, some sufficient conditions are derived for the convergence of the wave-propagation solutions to those with the minimal speed.
