Let \((R,\mathfrak{m})\) denote a regular local ring. The theory of integrally closed or complete ideals was studied at first by \textit{O. Zariski} [Am. J. Math. 60, 151--204 (1938; JFM 64.0079.01)]. The first named author of the present paper generalised this theory to finitely generated, torsion-free, integrally closed modules see [\textit{V. Kodiyalam}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 347, No. 9, 3551--3573 (1995; Zbl 0848.13007)]. The basic numerical result in Zariski's theory is nowadays the so-called Hoskin-Deligne formula (see e.g. Theorem 14.5.4 in [\textit{I. Swanson} and \textit{C. Huneke}, Integral closure of ideals, rings, and modules. London Mathematical Society Lecture Note Series 336. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press (2006; Zbl 1117.13001)] with a few historical comments). In the paper under review, the authors obtain an analogue of the Hoskin-Deligne formula for finitely generated, torsion-free, integrally closed \(R\)-modules \(M\). As a consequence, they get a formula for the Buchsbaum-Rim multiplicity of a certain finite length module associated to an integrally closed module. The authors' technical tools grow out of the first authors paper [Zbl 0848.13007].
