In this paper, the author shows that the results of \textit{P. Foulon} [C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. I 324, No. 10, 1127--1132 (1997; Zbl 0882.53051)] and \textit{C.-W. Kim} [Arch. Math. 88, No. 4, 378--384 (2007; Zbl 1126.53050)] (independently, of \textit{S. Deng} and \textit{Z. Hou} [Isr. J. Math. 162, 197--219 (2007; Zbl 1141.53071)]) about the non existence of locally symmetric Finsler metrics of positive or negative flag curvature are in fact local. It is proved that if the flag curvature of a locally symmetric metric is negative or positive, then the metric is a Riemannian metric, i.e., there exists a Riemannian metric \(h\) such that \( \forall p\in M, y\in T_{p}M \), we have \( F_{p}\left( y\right) =\sqrt{h_{p}\left( y, y\right) } \). Some special cases are also discussed taking \(M\) compact.
