Motivated by applications to physics (the way to use the main result is explained in [Sb. Math. 203, No. 12, 1715--1735 (2012; Zbl 1268.14030)]), the author gives an expression of a hyperelliptic curve of genus 3 and 4 in terms of its polarized Jacobian. More precisely, he shows that a genus 3 (resp. 4) hyperelliptic curve can be described up to an extra point (resp. up to 8 extra points) inside its Jacobian as the intersection of 3 (resp. 4) translates of the theta divisor. The author seems to be unaware that this is a (refinement of a) well-known strategy to solve Schottky problem (see for instance the 4th Lecture in the Appendix of [\textit{D. Mumford}, The red book of varieties and schemes. Includes the Michigan lectures (1974) on ``Curves and their Jacobians''. 2nd, expanded ed. with contributions by Enrico Arbarello. Berlin: Springer (1999; Zbl 0945.14001)]).
