Let \((X,d)\) and \((Y,d^{\prime})\) be Gromov 0-hyperbolic spaces, whose boundaries at infinity \(\partial X\) and \(\partial Y\) are equipped with the canonical visual metrics. The author first shows that an isometry at infinity \(f: X \to Y\) has a canonical extension to a map \(\partial f: \partial X \to \partial Y\) and that the extension is a Möbius map. Let \((X,d)\) be an ultrametric space. A hyperbolic filling of \((X,d)\) is defined by a Gromov 0-hyperbolic space whose boundary at infinity is identified with the space by a Möbius map. In this paper the canonical hyperbolic filling is constructed by hyperbolizing the collection \(\mathcal{B}(X)\) of non-degenerate balls of \(X\). The author defines a distance function \(h_{\mathcal{B}}\) on \(\mathcal{B}(X)\) and shows that this is a pseudometric and satisfies the \(\delta\)-hyperbolicity condition with \(\delta=0\), and also shows that \(h_{\mathcal{B}}\) is a metric if \(X\) is proper. If \((X,d)\) is a perfect ultrametric space, then the boundary at infinity of \(\mathcal{B}(X)\) with the canonical visual metric is identified with the one-point extension \(\overline{X}\cup\{\infty\}\) of \(\overline{X}\) with a chordal ultrametric by an isometry. Furthermore, if \(X\) is bounded, the boundary at infinity of \(\mathcal{B}(X)\) is identified with \(\overline{X}\) by a \(\lambda\)-similarity, where \(\lambda\) is the diameter of \(X\). It is also shown that \(h_{\mathcal{B}}\) can be expressed in terms of cross-ratios of the Hausdorff upper-distance on \(\mathcal{B}(X)\).
