This paper is devoted to the study of the boundedness of the Marcinkiewicz integral operator \[ \mu_\Omega(f)(x)= \left( \int_0^\infty \left| \int_{|x-y|\leq t} \frac{\Omega(x-y)}{|x-y|^{n-1}}\,f(y)\,dy\right|^2\frac{dt}{t^3}\right)^{1/2} \] (with homogeneous functions \(\Omega\) on \(\mathbb{R}^n\) of degree \(0\), having mean zero on the unit sphere \(\mathbb{S}^{n-1}\) and belonging to class \(\mathrm{Lip}_\gamma(\mathbb{S}^{n-1})\), \(0<\gamma \leq 1\)) on the variable exponent Herz space \(K^{\alpha(\cdot),q}_{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R}^n)\) and on its homogeneous version \(\dot{K}^{\alpha(\cdot),q}_{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R}^n)\). Here, \(q\in (0,\infty]\) is fixed while \(\alpha:\mathbb{R}^n \to \mathbb{R}\) and \(p:\mathbb{R}^n \to [1,\infty)\) are variable (measurable) exponents; \(\alpha\) is assumed to be \(\log\)-Hölder continuous both at the origin and at infinity, and \(p\) is supposed to be bounded away from \(1\) and from infinity such that the usual Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is bounded in the corresponding variable Lebesgue space \(L^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb{R}^n)\). Under the same assumptions, the author also establishes the boundedness of higher order commutators, generated by \(\mu_\Omega\) and \(BMO\) functions, on the same scales of variable Herz spaces.
