Linear images of linear groups. (Q2256769)

Let \(G\) be a subgroup of \(\text{GL}(n,F)\), where \(F\) is a field. Assume that \(N\) is a (Zariski) closed normal subgroup of \(G\). Then, it is well-known that the factor group \(G/N\) is isomorphic to a subgroup of \(\text{GL}(m,F)\) for some integer \(m\). In the article under review, the author gives the answer to the question whether it is possible to bound \(m\) in terms of \(n\) only. The answer is yes for various cases, for example if \(F\) has characteristic zero or the degree of \(G\) is at most \(2\). Also, the author gives some examples showing that the answer is no.
