Let \(F\) be a non-archimedean local field with residual characteristic \(p\) and let \(D\) be a central division algebra over \(F\). The subject of the article is the study of mod \(p\) representations of \(\mathrm{GL}(2,D)\). As in the known case where \(D = F\) the irreducible admissible representations are divided into four types: the one-dimensional representations, the Steinberg representations, the principal series and the supersingular representations. The first three types can be classified and it is proved that the remaining representations are supersingular. Apart from the proof of this classification theorem the article contains some results on the reducibility of parabolically induced representations and on the invariants of the pro-\(p\)-Iwahori group on these representations.
