The authors study the pair correlations of fractional parts of \(\alpha x_{n}\) for rational \(x_{n}\) and real \(\alpha\). The focus lies on classes of sequences \(x_{n}\) whose pair correlation behaves as that of random sequences for almost all \(\alpha\). A first example is of the form \(x_{n}= \frac{a_{n}}{b_{n}},\) where \(a_{n}\) is lacunary and \(b_{n}\) satisfies a certain growth condition, a second example is of more arithmetic nature. The proofs depend on Fourier analysis techniques.
