    Let \(\mathcal{L}\) be the sub-Laplacian on a stratified Lie group \(G\) and denote by \(E(\lambda)\) its spectral measure. For any Borel measurable function \(m\) on \([0, \infty)\) the multiplier operator \(m(\mathcal{L})\) can be defined by \[ m(\mathcal{L}) = \int_0^{\infty} m(\lambda) dE(\lambda). \] The problem of determining conditions on \(m\) that ensure the boundedness of the multiplier \(m(\mathcal{L})\) on various distribution spaces of \(G\) is addressed in this paper. Now assume \(\alpha \in \mathbb{R}, p \in \mathbb{R}^+\) and \(1 < q < \infty\). The homogeneous Herz spaces \(\dot{K}_q^{\alpha, p}(G)\) and the nonhomogeneous Herz spaces \(K_q^{\alpha, p}(G)\) are defined. From these the homogeneous Herz-type Hardy spaces \(H\dot{K}_q^{\alpha, p}(G)\) and the nonhomogeneous Herz-type Hardy spaces \(HK_q^{\alpha, p}(G)\) are then defined. Let \(Q\) be the homogeneous dimension of \(G\) and let \(\phi\) be a function in \(C^{\infty}_c(\mathbb{R}^+)\) supported in \((1/2, 2)\) that satisfies \(\sum_{j \in \mathbb{Z}} \phi(2^j \lambda) = 1\), for all \(\lambda > 0\). The main result of this paper: Let \(r >0\) and \(s > r + \frac{Q}{2}\). Suppose that \(m\) is a function on \(\mathbb{R}^+\) which satisfies \[ \sup_{k \in \mathbb{Z}} \| \phi(\cdot ) m(2^k\cdot) \|_{H^s_2} < \infty. \] Then the multiplier operator \(m(\mathcal{L})\) extends to a bounded operator on \(H\dot{K}_2^{\alpha, p}(G)\) and \(HK_2^{\alpha, p}(G)\) where \(\alpha > Q/2, 0 < p < \infty.\) This paper generalizes the results of \textit{G. Mauceri} and \textit{S. Meda} given in [Rev. Mat. Iberoam. 6, No. 3--4, 141--154 (1990; Zbl 0763.43005)].
