    The authors study when the characteristic function of the half-plane becomes a pointwise multiplier on the weighted vector-valued Bessel-potential (also called fractional Sobolev) spaces \(H^{s,p}(\mathbb R^d,w, X)\), Besov spaces \(B^s_{p,q}(\mathbb R^d,w, X)\) and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces \(F^{s}_{p,q}(\mathbb R^d,w, X)\), where \(w\) is a weight and \(X\) is a Banach space. The authors manage to extend the scalar-valued classical results to the weighted situation for power weights \(w_\gamma(x',t)= |t|^\gamma\). They show that for \(UMD\) spaces, \(1<p<\infty\), \(-1<\gamma< p-1\) and \[ -\frac{1+\gamma'}{p'}<s<\frac{1+\gamma}{p} \] there exists a constant \(C>0\) (independent of \(f\)) such that \[ \|1_{\mathbb R^d_+} f\|_{H^{s,p}(\mathbb R^d,w_\gamma, X)} \leq C \| f\|_{H^{s,p}(\mathbb R^d,w_\gamma, X)}, \] where \(1/p'+1/p=1\), \(\gamma'=-\frac{\gamma}{p-1}\) and \[ \|f\|_{H^{s,p}(\mathbb R^d,w_\gamma, X)}= \| \mathcal F^{-1}(1+ |\cdot\|^2)^{s/2} \hat f \|_{L^p(\mathbb R^d, w_\gamma, X)}. \] This extends the unweighted and scalar-valued case which goes back to \textit{E. Shamir} [C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris 255, 448--449 (1962; Zbl 0108.11001)] and \textit{R. S. Strichartz} [J. Math. Mech. 16, 1031--1060 (1967; Zbl 0145.38301)] for the Bessel-potential spaces. Also, results for the Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin situation are presented, but in these cases the extension holds for any Banach space \(X\). The technique used in the paper relies on estimating the paraproducts (see [\textit{J.-M. Bony}, Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér. (4) 14, 209--246 (1981; Zbl 0495.35024)]) acting on the corresponding spaces together with a randomized Littlewood-Paley decomposition.
