It is considered the Swift-Hohenberg equation \[ u_t = (\alpha-1)u + \beta u^2 - u^3 - \triangle^2 u \] in one and two space dimensions. The paper focuses on the stationary solutions in order to discover stable patterns with complex behavior. In the one-dimensional case the cubic nonlinear function is replaced by a discontinuous function and the analysis deals with a Hamiltonian system for which the symmetric localized solutions are considered by means of bifurcation analysis. For the two-dimensional case the radially symmetric solutions are considered and the analysis is done for the system \[ \displaylines{\displaystyle{{{d^2u}\over{dr^2}} + {{1}\over{r}}{{du}\over{dr}} + u = v, }\cr \displaystyle{{{d^2v}\over{dr^2}} + {{1}\over{r}}{{dv}\over{dr}} + v = f(u)}} \] subject to the boundary conditions \[ u(\infty) = v(\infty) = 0\;;\;u'(0) = v'(0) = 0 \]
