The stability problem of functional equations originated from a question of Ulam in 1940, concerning the stability of group homomorphisms. In 1941, D. H. Hyers gave a first affirmative answer to the question for Banach spaces. A mapping \(T\) is called a left (right) \(\theta\)-centralizer on \(A\) if \[ T(xy)=T(x) \theta(y)\quad (T(xy)=\theta(x)T(y)) \] holds for all \(x,y\in A\). In the present paper, the authors prove that every left \(\theta\)-centralizer on a semisimple Banach algebra with left approximate identity is continuous. Then, they investigate the stability and superstability problem of \(\theta\)-centralizers on semiprime Banach \(*\)-algebras and establish conditions under which a given mapping \(f\) is a left (right) \(\theta\)-centralizer. By these results, the authors prove the generalized Hyers-Ulam stability of \(\theta\)-centralizers on semiprime Banach \(*\)-algebras.
