The book mainly discusses equilibrium systems, with equilibrium defined in terms of the Gibbs distributions. The explanation is also restricted to deterministic systems on lattices. The book is divided into five parts. Part I contains the basic elements of equilibrium thermodynamics and statistical mechanics, phenomenological scaling theory and a survey of a range of different models. Part II is devoted to classical, mean-field methods, including phenomenological theory and Landau expansions, mean-field theory and cluster-variation methods. Part III contains some algebraic and transformation methods to study several models of statistical mechanics, including the edge-decorated Ising models, Potts models, exactly solved models, and dimer models. Part IV is devoted to series and renormalization group methods. Part V contains a collection of mathematical appendices on a range of relevant topics, which are devoted to graphs and lattices, algebra and analysis.
