For the stationary inhomogeneous Navier-Stokes equations written in terms of the primitive variables under inhomogeneous boundary conditions a conforming finite element method is developed. Optimal estimates for the error of the approximate solution are presented and the convergence properties of iterative methods for the solution of the resulting discrete nonlinear algebraic system are studied. There are three interesting numerical examples, two artificial ones and a physical flow, namely the plane flow in the neighborhood of a stagnation point.
