    \(\{\) \(P_ n(x)\}\) is a sequence of polynomials, orthogonal w.r.t. a distribution function \(\psi\) (x) with support S(\(\psi)\), and satisfying \(P_ n=(x-c_ n)P_{n-1}-\lambda_ nP_{n-2},\quad P_{-1}\equiv 0,\quad P_ 0\equiv 1,\quad c_ n\in {\mathbb{R}},\) \(\lambda_ n>0\), for all n. Let \(\{x_{n,1}\}^ n_{i=1}\) be the (simple real) zeros of \(P_ n\) and \(\sigma =\lim_{i\to \infty}\lim_{n\to \infty}x_{n,i},\quad \tau =\lim_{i\to \infty}\lim_{n\to \infty}x_{,n,-i}.\) The following theorems are proven. Theorem 1. Let \((i)\quad \lim_{n\to \infty}| c_ n| =\infty;\quad (ii)\quad \inf_{n}c_ n=-\sup_{n}c_ n=-\infty;\quad (iii)\quad \limsup_{n\to \infty}| a_ n(0)| <1/4.\) Then \(\sigma =-\tau =- \infty\) and S(\(\psi)\) has no finite points of accumulation. Theorem 2. Let \({\mathcal L}\) denote the set of subsequential limit points (in the extended real number system) of \(\{c_ n\}\). If \(\lim_{n\to \infty}a_ n(0)=0\) then \(\sigma =\inf {\mathcal L}\), \(\tau =\sup {\mathcal L}\), and the accumulation points of S(\(\psi)\) are a subset of \({\mathcal L}\), where \(a_ n(0)=\lambda_{n+1}/c_ nc_{n+1}.\)
