    With the usual notations of Nevanlinna theory and the abbreviation \[ m^ 2_ 2(r,f)=(1/2\pi)\int^{2\pi}_{0}(\log^+| f(re^{i\theta})|)^ 2d\theta \] a recent, unpublished result of M. Ozawa says that \(f(z)=g(z)/g(-z)\), where g(z) is a canonical product of order \(\rho\) and genus \(g=[\rho]\), satisfies \[ K(f)= \limsup_{r\to \infty}(N(r,f)+N(r,1/f))/m_ 2(r,f)\geq B[\rho], \] \[ B(\rho)=(2/\pi \rho)^{1/2}(\pi \rho -\sin \pi \rho)^{-1/2}| \cos (\pi \rho /2)|. \] The author generalizes this to \(K(f)\geq \sup_{\lambda^*\leq \sigma \leq \mu^*}B(\sigma),\) using the notion of \textit{J. Miles} and \textit{D. F. Shea} [Duke Math. J. 43, 171-186 (1976; Zbl 0333.30017)]. He also discusses properties of the g(z) for which equality holds.
