The author studies manifolds modelled on \(R^{\infty}\) and proves some interesting results about \(R^{\infty}\)-manifolds. The main result of the paper is Theorem 1: The projection map \(M\times R^{\infty}\to M\) is a near homeomorphism for every paracompact connected \(R^{\infty}\)- manifold. This theorem combined with previous results implies the following Theorem 2: There is an open embedding \(f: M\to R^{\infty}\). Theorem 3: If \(f: M\to N\) is a homotopy equivalence between \(R^{\infty}\)-manifolds, then f is homotopic to a homeomorphism. We should mention that \(R^{\infty}\) is not metrizable and not a countable product. This fact makes it impossible to apply the arguments that Chapman, Edwards, etc. have used to prove the corresponding theorems for Hilbert cube manifolds.
