The eigenvalue problem of a 2n\(\times 2n\) complex Hermitian matrix which can be partitioned as \[ H=\left[ \begin{matrix} A\quad B\\ -\bar B\quad \bar A\end{matrix} \right] \] is treated by unitary transformation methods. H is transformed into two identical \(n\times n\) real tridiagonal matrices by means of Givens and Householder transformations. The (double) eigenvalues are then easily computed. The algorithm is at least twice as fast as application of standard software to H, and uses minimal storage. General problems \(H_ 1-\lambda H_ 2\) are also treated.
