The first result establishes a fixed point theorem for three maps of a complete metric space. The contractive definition is a generalization of that of \textit{G. E. Hardy} and \textit{T. D. Rogers} [Can. Math. Bull. 16, 201-206 (1973; Zbl 0266.54015)], and the commuting condition of \textit{G. Jungck} is replaced by the concept of weakly commuting [Am. Math. Mon. 83, 261-263 (1976; Zbl 0321.54025)]. The other results are extensions of some theorems of Kannan.
