In the article of \textit{M. N. Kogan} and the author [(*) ibid. 19, 286-292 (1984; Zbl 0556.76050)] the maximum efficiency was found for a vibrating wing of infinite span in a supersonic flow. In the present article the method developed in (*) is applied in order to solve the problem of the maximum efficiency of a cylinder with a vibrating external or internal surface.
