A general syzygy bundle on \(\mathbb P^N\) is defined as the kernel of a general epimorphism \[ \mathcal{O}_{\mathbb P^N}(-d_1) \oplus \dots \oplus \mathcal{O}_{\mathbb P^N}(-d_n) \to \mathcal{O}_{\mathbb P^N} \] In the paper under review, the authors focus on the case \(d_1=\dots=d_n=d\) and they study the corresponding syzygy bundles \(E_{d,n}\). In particular they prove that a general syzygy bundle \(E_{d,n}\) is stable: {\parindent=5mm \begin{itemize}\item[--] if \(N=2\), \(3\leq n\leq {{d+2}\choose{2}}\) and \((n,d)\neq (5,2)\) (while a general bundle \(E_{5,2}\) is semistable), and \item[--] if \(N\geq 3\) and \(N+1\leq n\leq {{d+2}\choose{2}}+N-2\). \end{itemize}} The proof is based on a clever use of a combinatoric criterion of semistability for syzygy bundles defined by monomial forms [see \textit{H. Brenner}, Adv. Math. 219, No. 2, 401--427 (2008; Zbl 1166.13007)]. Moreover the authors study the properties of the moduli spaces containing the stable syzygy bundles found in the first part. They prove that, if \(N\neq3\), the stable syzygy bundles \(E_{d,n}\) are smooth points of the moduli spaces and they compute the dimensions of the irreducible components containing \(E_{d,n}\).
