The paper presents some interesting results concerning standard monomial bases and degenerations of the dimensional representations of the special orthogonal group \(SO_{m}(\mathbb C)\). Using a flat degeneration technique, the author describes the representation spaces via a lattice cone associated with the Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns for \(GL_{m}(\mathbb C)\). Combinatorial descriptions of the weight bases for \(SO_{m}(\mathbb C)\) relative to those for \(GL_{m}(\mathbb C)\) are also given. The main object of the paper is the algebra \(\mathbb C[M_{m,n}]^{U_{n}}/{\mathcal I}_{SO(m)}\cong \sum_{r(D)\leq n}{\sigma_{m}^{D}}\) (the isotropic flag algebra), where \(M_{m,n}\) is the space of \(m \times n\)-matrices, \(U_{n}\) is the upper triangular unipotent subgroup of the general linear group \(GL(n)\), \(\sigma_{m}^{D}\) is the \(O(m)\) irreducible representation indexed by the Young diagram \(D\), the sum is over all Young diagrams with less than or equal to \(n\) rows, the ideal \({\mathcal I}_{SO(m)}\) is generated by quadratic relations derived from the symmetric bilinear form fixed for \(SO(m)\). The author proves that the \(SO(m)\) standard monomials in \(\mathbb C[M_{m,n}]^{U_{n}}\) project to a vector space basis of \(\mathbb C[M_{m,n}]^{U_{n}}/{\mathcal I}_{SO(m)}\) (Theorem 3.6) which is the main result of the paper.
