The main aim of the paper is the proof of the following two assertions. Let \(\Omega \subset \mathbb R^n\), \(n \geq 2\), be a domain and let \(Y\) be a separable metric space. If \(f: \Omega \to Y\) is locally integrable, continuous with weak derivatives in the Lorentz space \(L^{n,1}\), then \(H^n \big( f(E) \big) =0\) if \(E \subset \Omega\) and \(H^n (E) =0\) (Theorem 1.3). Furthermore, for \(1<q\leq n\), each length-compact metric space \(Y\) is the image of a continuous surjection in the Sobolev-Lorentz space \(W^{1,n,q} \big( [0,1]^n, Y \big)\) (Theorem 1.2).
