    The principal result of this paper is the following: If \({\mathbf c}\) is a nonzero cappable degree, then there is a low\(_2\) noncuppable degree \({\mathbf b}\) such that \({\mathbf c}\vee{\mathbf b}\) is high. From this immediately follows that: Given a nonzero c.e. degree \({\mathbf c}\), there is a noncuppable low\(_2\) degree \({\mathbf b}\) such that \({\mathbf c}\vee{\mathbf b}\) is high. This last result improves the results in [\textit{C. G. Jockusch jun., A. Li} and \textit{Y. Yang}, ``A join theorem for the computably enumerable degrees'', Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 356, No. 7, 2557--2568 (2004; Zbl 1057.03030)] and [\textit{G. Wu}, ``Quasi-complements of the cappable degrees'', Math. Log. Q. 50, No. 2, 189--201 (2004; Zbl 1048.03033)].
