If the first Chern class of a Kähler manifold \(X\) is negative, then \(X\) admits a unique Kähler-Einstein metric. This was proved by \textit{T. Aubin} [Bull. Sci. Math., II. Ser. 102, 63--95 (1978; Zbl 0374.53022)] and \textit{S.-T. Yau} [Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 31, 339--411 (1978; Zbl 0369.53059)]. \textit{S. K. Donaldson} [J. Differ. Geom. 59, No.~3, 479--522 (2001; Zbl 1052.32017)] suggested a method of approximation for Kähler metrics with constant scalar curvature (under some additional assumptions) by balanced metrics which are algebraic. Further, \textit{H. Tsuji} [Nagoya Math. J. 199, 107--122 (2010; Zbl 1205.32021)] introduced an iterative procedure for the approximation of the Kähler-Einstein metric by algebraic ones. It converges, in some sense, weakly. In the present paper, the authors prove the uniform convergence of Tsuji's procedure on a compact Kähler manifold whose first Chern class is negative and whose canonical bundle is ample. They also suggest a modification of this procedure which converges on algebraic surfaces of general type and on orbifolds with isolated singularities and ample canonical bundle.
