Semistable torsion-free sheaves on a rational curve with one node are classified. The author works over an algebraically closed field of zero characteristic. The problem is solved involving chains and cycles [\textit{I. Burban} and \textit{B. Kreussler}, J. Reine Angew. Math. 584, 45--82 (2005; Zbl 1085.14018); \textit{Y. A. Drozd} and \textit{G.-M. Greuel}, J. Algebra 246, No. 1, 1--54 (2001; Zbl 1065.14041)]. The notion of semistability for sheaves is interpreted in terms of their combinatorial data. Semistable sheaves are classified also by means of the classification of their combinatorial data. Some results on ``counting'' semistable sheaves and their structure are obtained.
